Where there were no services, we created them. Where there was no support, we provided it. We provide services to everyone regardless of race, nationality, religion or creed, sexual identity or preference.
Since 1991 WOC has been on the front lines of support, intervention, education and change concerning breast health in our immediate community of Los Angeles County SPA 6 & 8. Today we are also available nationally online and serve as a resource, reference and referral for other organizations. We have members all over the country who join our monthly support groups via Zoom.
The population of SPA 6 & 8 include large percentages of Latinx & African American/Black families who have limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables and other determinants of health. SPA 6 has the highest percentage of childhood obesity (based on grades 5,7, & 9), the highest adult sedentary behavior and poorest adult nutrition ratings of all SPAs in the county Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of premature death (before age 75) for women living in SPA 8 (2nd only to coronary heart disease).
